♻️ Milestone Achieved! SAS Foundation Expands E-Waste Drive to Bengaluru, Eyes Chennai Next
Belief in a better future begins with a single act of responsibility — and when communities come together for a cause, the results can be extraordinary. That’s exactly what happened as Swavalamban Avam Swabhimaan Foundation (SAS Foundation) reached an inspiring new milestone: over 2 tonnes of e-waste collected this year, thanks to our first-ever e-waste collection drive in Bengaluru, hosted at MJR Gulmohar Avenue.
This achievement isn’t just about the numbers — it’s about momentum, awareness, and the power of citizen participation. As the Foundation expands its impact across Indian cities, Bengaluru stands out as a beacon of change, showcasing how local communities can lead the charge for sustainability.
🌍 The E-Waste Challenge We Face
As India rapidly digitizes, it is also generating one of the world’s largest volumes of electronic waste — discarded smartphones, laptops, chargers, appliances, and batteries that often end up in landfills, seeping toxins into our soil and water.
Most people are unaware of how dangerous e-waste can be if not handled responsibly. E-waste contains hazardous substances like lead, cadmium, and mercury, and improper disposal can cause long-term health and ecological damage. Yet, formal recycling infrastructure remains limited, and awareness among the general public is still evolving.
This is where SAS Foundation’s mission becomes crucial: to turn the tide through community-level awareness, responsible collection drives, and partnerships with certified recyclers.
🛠️ Bengaluru Joins the Mission
Our most recent milestone was marked in the tech hub of India — Bengaluru, at MJR Gulmohar Avenue, where residents enthusiastically participated in our green mission. The Foundation organized a well-coordinated e-waste drive that was not only about collecting unused gadgets but also spreading knowledge about sustainable recycling practices.
Residents, society leaders, and volunteers came forward to contribute:
- Old smartphones and accessories
- Defunct laptops and printers
- Batteries, chargers, and other electronic waste
The drive was supported by informative posters, eco-awareness talks, and on-ground volunteers who helped guide residents about what qualifies as e-waste, why it matters, and how it should be responsibly disposed of.
📊 Numbers That Tell a Powerful Story
With this Bengaluru event, SAS Foundation proudly surpassed the 2-tonne mark for e-waste collected this year. That’s over 2,000 kilograms of harmful waste prevented from reaching landfills, and instead, diverted into formal, eco-friendly recycling channels.
Here’s what this means:
- Toxic materials were safely extracted and neutralized
- Valuable components like copper, aluminum, and rare earth metals were recovered
- Landfill space and environmental degradation were reduced
- A message of circular economy and sustainable living was amplified
Each kilo of e-waste recycled is a win for the planet, and this milestone is just the beginning.
🌆 Spreading the Movement: 5+ Cities and Growing
The success in Bengaluru is part of a broader, growing impact footprint. SAS Foundation’s e-waste mission is now active in multiple major Indian cities, including:
- Delhi
- Faridabad
- Gurgaon
- Mumbai
- Noida
- Bengaluru
Each city has hosted drives in residential complexes, schools, offices, and community centers — reaching thousands with the message of “Recycle Responsibly”.
And we’re not done yet.
🚀 Next Stop: Chennai!
Buoyed by the enthusiastic response across cities, SAS Foundation is now preparing to launch its next e-waste drive in Chennai, further expanding its footprint in South India.
Chennai, with its tech parks, educational hubs, and progressive citizen base, is the perfect environment to foster responsible recycling habits. The Foundation is already in discussions with:
- Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs)
- Local schools and colleges
- Corporate CSR teams
- Environmental NGOs and volunteers
We believe that when education meets action, transformation is inevitable — and that’s exactly what we aim to achieve in Chennai and beyond.
🙌 Community Champions Behind the Mission
None of this would have been possible without the inspiring leadership and support of dedicated individuals:
- Dr. Nitin Saini – Leading the Foundation’s sustainability vertical with passion and foresight
- Dr. Jyoti Dongre Rao – A tireless advocate for eco-literacy and community outreach
- Gaurav Agarwal, CSM – Supporting digital strategy and drive coordination
- Jyotsana Sinha – Our Joint Secretary, who has helped shape every step of the e-waste initiative
- Shiv Chander Jha – Backbone of logistics, volunteer mobilization, and impact reporting
Their collective efforts, along with the cooperation of resident communities like MJR Gulmohar Avenue, form the foundation of this success story.
