Collective Action, Lasting Impact: SAS Foundation’s 11th E-Waste Collection Drive in Faridabad Marks a Sustainability Milestone
On 8th September 2024, the Swavalamban Avam Swabhimaan Foundation (SAS Foundation), in partnership with Attero, proudly conducted its 11th e-waste collection drive at Lord Krishna Residency Apartments, Faridabad. This event marked yet another significant step in our ongoing mission to promote environmental responsibility and sustainable waste management.
And the outcome? šæ
Weāve now collected over 1.24 tonnes of e-waste this year aloneāan incredible achievement driven by awareness, action, and community collaboration.
š¦ What We Collected
During this impactful drive, our team and the residents came together to responsibly dispose of:
- š± 6 Smartphones
- š 2 Fans
- šØļø 2 Printers
- š» 1 Laptop
- āļø 1 Window Air Conditioner
- āļø 1 Landline + 1 Feature Phone
- ā»ļø Over 13 kg of miscellaneous e-waste (chargers, wires, adapters, remotes, batteries, etc.)
Each of these items may seem small on its own, but together, they represent a massive reduction in harmful pollutants, such as lead, mercury, and cadmium, which would otherwise leach into our soil and water.
š Why It Matters
The global e-waste crisis is growing rapidly, with over 53.6 million metric tonnes of electronic waste generated annually. In India alone, we are generating more than 3.2 million tonnes each year. Sadly, only a fraction of this is recycled through formal channels.
Improper disposal methodsālike open dumping and burningāresult in dangerous emissions and contamination that harm both the environment and human health. Children, informal waste workers, and low-income communities are especially vulnerable to the toxic effects of mismanaged e-waste.
By organizing formal, certified collection drives, SAS Foundation ensures that discarded electronics are:
- š§ Processed safely by authorized recyclers
- ā»ļø Recovered for raw materials like copper, gold, and aluminum
- š± Kept out of landfills, reducing environmental degradation
- š Disposed of securely, protecting user data and privacy
š„ Community at the Core
One of the most powerful aspects of this drive was community participation. Residents of Lord Krishna Residency Apartments showed great enthusiasm in supporting the initiative. Volunteers engaged with households, helped segregate e-waste, and assisted in packaging and handing over items safely to Atteroās authorized handlers.
We are incredibly grateful to each participant for showing that small, local actions can collectively lead to global impact.
š Part of a Larger Movement
This successful event is just one piece of SAS Foundationās broader environmental initiative. So far in 2024, our team has organized drives in:
- Delhi
- Gurgaon
- Faridabad
- Mumbai
- Bengaluru
And soon, weāre expanding to Chennai and other Tier-2 citiesābuilding a nationwide network of responsible e-waste champions.
With each campaign, weāre not only collecting wasteāweāre building awareness, shaping behavior, and inspiring action among citizens of all ages.
š§ Education & Awareness: The Real Game-Changer
Beyond collection, awareness is key to long-term change. Thatās why we complement every drive with community educationāhelping people understand:
- What qualifies as e-waste
- The dangers of improper disposal
- The environmental and economic value of recycling
- How to become lifelong sustainability advocates
By making this knowledge accessible, we are empowering households to take proactive steps even between collection drives.

š Final Thought: A Call to Action
The fight against e-waste pollution doesnāt require massive investments or sweeping legislationāit begins with simple, conscious decisions. When we choose to recycle our old gadgets responsibly, weāre not just cleaning our drawersāweāre protecting our soil, air, and future generations.
At SAS Foundation, we believe in this truth:
Every device counts. Every action matters. Every person can lead change.
So letās continue this journey togetherātowards a sustainable tomorrow, one collection drive at a time.Ā
