Driving Change, One Device at a Time: SAS Foundation’s E-Waste Drive at Aishwaryam Apartments, Dwarka

On 25th August 2024, Swavalamban Avam Swabhimaan Foundation (SAS Foundation) once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to sustainability by organizing a successful E-Waste Collection Drive at Aishwaryam Apartments, Sector 4, Dwarka. Held in collaboration with Attero, a leading e-waste management organization, this drive added another milestone to our ever-growing environmental mission.

With over 1.14 tonnes of e-waste collected so far this year, we are not just collecting waste—we are building awareness, mobilizing communities, and inspiring action towards a greener, healthier planet.

🌍 The Rising Crisis of E-Waste

In today’s tech-driven world, electronic gadgets have become essential to our daily lives. But with innovation and consumption comes a new challenge—electronic waste. India is the third-largest producer of e-waste in the world, and the improper disposal of gadgets has led to alarming levels of environmental damage and health hazards.

Devices like old phones, computers, printers, and televisions contain toxic materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and brominated flame retardants, which, if left untreated, seep into our soil and water, contaminating ecosystems and endangering human health.

Addressing this crisis requires collaborative action and community awareness—and that’s where SAS Foundation steps in.

♻️ The Power of Community: Aishwaryam Leads by Example

Our drive at Aishwaryam Apartments was a perfect example of grassroots mobilization. Residents, RWA members, volunteers, and waste management professionals came together with a shared mission—to responsibly dispose of unused electronics and reduce their environmental footprint.

From early morning till late evening, families arrived with old laptops, mobile phones, chargers, remotes, CPUs, printers, wires, and much more. The response was overwhelming—not just in terms of volume, but in the collective spirit of sustainability that filled the atmosphere.

By the end of the day, dozens of large bins were filled, and the community had collectively contributed to something far larger than just a clean-up—it was a statement of purpose.

🔄 From Waste to Resource: The Attero Collaboration

Our trusted partner, Attero, ensured that every item collected was processed responsibly and sustainably. Their team educated residents on:

  • How e-waste is handled
  • What happens to materials post-collection
  • The dangers of informal recycling
  • And most importantly, how each citizen plays a crucial role in this chain

By following a closed-loop recycling system, Attero helps recover valuable materials like copper, aluminum, gold, and plastic from discarded electronics, feeding them back into the production cycle and reducing the need for virgin resource extraction.

👥 Behind the Scenes: People Who Made It Happen

While impact numbers tell one part of the story, the real heartbeat of this initiative lies in the people who made it possible.

Our heartfelt thanks to:

  • The RWA of Aishwaryam Apartments for opening their gates and supporting this green cause.
  • Volunteers and youth coordinators who helped manage logistics and encouraged participation across all age groups.
  • Attero’s experts, who guided the community through the e-waste journey and ensured environmentally sound collection and transport.

Also, kudos to local children who turned into little green ambassadors, going door-to-door, helping collect gadgets, and learning the value of sustainability hands-on.

This community-driven model reinforces one of our core beliefs: real change begins when awareness meets action.

📊 The Bigger Picture: Over 1.14 Tonnes and Growing

The Aishwaryam Apartments drive is one of several organized by SAS Foundation in 2024. With each event, our footprint grows—and so does our impact. So far this year, we’ve:

  • Conducted 12+ e-waste collection drives across major cities including Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai
  • Reached thousands of citizens through awareness campaigns
  • Collected over 1.14 tonnes of e-waste, contributing significantly towards our 3-tonne annual goal

Every discarded phone, broken printer, and damaged charger collected brings us closer to our vision of a cleaner, greener India.

🌱 Why It Matters: Sustainability as a Way of Life

At SAS Foundation, we view environmental protection not as a project, but as a culture to be nurtured.

E-waste drives help:

  • Divert harmful waste from landfills
  • Conserve natural resources by promoting material recovery
  • Reduce carbon emissions associated with electronic production
  • Educate and empower communities to make greener choices every day

But the impact doesn’t stop there.

Every event helps foster a generation of eco-conscious citizens—from the school children learning how gadgets are recycled to the senior citizens leading neighborhood efforts, each interaction plants the seeds of lasting change.
