Building a Greener Future: E-Waste Drive at Silver Oak Apartments Marks a Milestone for Sustainability
On 21st July 2024, Swavalamban Avam Swabhimaan Foundation (SAS Foundation) took another giant stride in its mission to promote environmental sustainability. In collaboration with Attero, and with the strong leadership of Gaurav Agarwal (CSM), Indranil Bhowmik, and Jatin Yadav, the Foundation successfully conducted an E-Waste Collection Drive at Silver Oak Apartments, Gurugram. The event marked not only an environmental success but also a community milestone — demonstrating how collective action can lead to measurable and lasting impact.
🌿 Why This Drive Matters
In today’s fast-paced digital world, electronic devices are constantly being upgraded, leaving older gadgets obsolete. But what happens to these old devices? Many are dumped irresponsibly, posing severe risks to soil, water, air, and human health. Through organized e-waste drives, SAS Foundation aims to create awareness and offer citizens a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of their electronics.
The drive at Silver Oak Apartments is part of the Foundation’s ongoing environmental campaign, which focuses on responsible e-waste management through collaboration with industry leaders and local communities.
🤝 Power of Community: Volunteers and Champions Behind the Success
The success of the Silver Oak Drive was made possible by the unwavering support of key community members:
- Mr. Sudhakar Jain (RWA President) – whose enthusiastic leadership ensured maximum resident participation.
- Mr. Uday (Security Supervisor) – who supported logistical arrangements and smooth execution.
- Ms. Preeti Mishra (Resident) – whose advocacy and peer mobilization played a pivotal role in encouraging residents to contribute.
Moreover, Arjun Tiwari from Attero, our trusted e-waste recycling partner, ensured that all collected materials would be handled and processed in accordance with environmental safety and recycling best practices.
📦 What Was Collected?
The total items collected speak volumes about both the environmental burden and the potential of organized efforts to reduce it:
- 3 Laptops
- 2 Smartphones
- 2 Stabilizers
- 1 Refrigerator
- 1 Printer
- ~54 Kgs of miscellaneous e-waste
Each of these discarded items, if not properly managed, could have ended up polluting the environment. But thanks to this initiative, they will now be responsibly recycled, ensuring minimal harm and maximum resource recovery.
📈 Our Growing Impact
With this drive, the SAS Foundation has now surpassed its mid-year target, having collected over 1130 kilograms of e-waste in 2024 alone. This milestone reflects the power of consistency and partnerships in driving real-world change.
These statistics are more than just numbers. They represent a collective step toward a circular economy, where waste is minimized, resources are conserved, and sustainability becomes a shared responsibility.
💡 Driving Awareness, One Step at a Time
Each collection drive is not just about gathering devices — it is a moment of community learning and behavior change. Through posters, interactive sessions, and discussions with residents, SAS Foundation ensures that each participant understands:
- What qualifies as e-waste
- The health and environmental risks of improper disposal
- The importance of certified recyclers like Attero
- How small individual actions can create massive environmental impact
This awareness is essential, especially in urban residential societies where fast-paced lifestyles often lead to unsustainable disposal habits.
🛠️ Tech as a Solution, Not the Problem
Our aim is not to stop the use of electronics — it’s to embrace technology more responsibly. With the right systems in place, every household can become a contributor to a greener planet.
Through our partnerships with companies like Attero, we’re able to track and process the e-waste safely. This ensures not only environmental security but also economic value through the recovery of precious metals like gold, copper, and silver.
🌍 A Vision for the Future
SAS Foundation’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond e-waste. We are working towards a comprehensive green strategy that includes:
- Plastic and textile waste awareness campaigns
- Green school programs for students
- Community-based tree plantations
- Skill-building workshops on sustainability for youth
Every action we take is aligned with our larger mission — Empowering Youth’s Dreams and Building Sustainable Communities.
