Empowering Youth: SAS Foundation Summer Internships 2024

Empowering the Green Leaders of Tomorrow: Inside the Summer Internships of SAS Foundation at BGS International Public School

In a world increasingly affected by climate change, digital disruption, and environmental degradation, educating and empowering youth is not just a strategy β€” it’s a necessity. This summer, the Swavalamban Avam Swabhimaan Foundation (SAS Foundation) partnered with BGS International Public School, Dwarka, to do exactly that through two powerful programs: the Green Champion Internship 2024 and the IT Internship 2024.

Over the course of a few transformative weeks, 31 bright and dedicated students embarked on a journey that blended environmental stewardship with digital skill-building β€” proving that the leaders of tomorrow are already making a difference today.

🌱 The Green Champion Internship 2024: E-Waste Warriors in Action

One of the most urgent issues plaguing our environment is the growing pile of electronic waste (e-waste) β€” discarded gadgets, laptops, mobile phones, and electrical appliances. Improper disposal of e-waste not only leads to soil, water, and air contamination but also wastes valuable resources that could be reused through proper recycling.

To address this, the SAS Foundation introduced the Green Champion Internship, aimed at sensitizing students about e-waste and empowering them to take action in their own communities.

The results were remarkable.

πŸ”‹ 450+ Kgs of e-waste collected
Through community drives, door-to-door awareness campaigns, and active participation, these young interns collected over 450 kilograms of e-waste β€” a significant contribution toward environmental sustainability and circular economy awareness. From old chargers to broken laptops and unused mobile phones, nothing was too small for these budding eco-warriors.

πŸ“’ Awareness was at the heart of the drive
Students didn’t just collect waste β€” they educated families, explained the hazards of improper disposal, and helped their neighborhoods adopt responsible e-waste management practices. They served as catalysts for behavioral change, spreading awareness among peers, families, and local communities.

🌍 Climate-conscious action
By diverting toxic e-waste away from landfills and into responsible recycling channels, these interns helped reduce carbon emissions, conserve precious materials like copper and gold, and prevent environmental pollution.

πŸ’» The IT Internship 2024: Web Builders of the Future

In parallel, the SAS Foundation launched the IT Internship 2024 to strengthen the students’ capabilities in the ever-evolving world of digital technology. Hosted on the intuitive and powerful WIX website-building platform, the program gave students hands-on experience in web development, design thinking, and content creation.

πŸ–₯️ From consumers to creators
The internship transformed students from mere digital consumers into digital creators. They learned to build fully functional websites β€” from choosing layouts and themes to integrating forms, images, and service sections. This experiential learning exposed them to real-world digital tools that are essential in modern careers.

✨ Mentorship made the difference
Under the guidance of mentors Mohisha Sharma and Devyanshi Gupta, students navigated complex ideas with ease. The mentors not only offered technical training but also inspired interns to think creatively, work collaboratively, and develop a growth mindset.

🌐 Empowering self-expression
Beyond the technical, the internship encouraged students to use websites as tools of storytelling and advocacy. Many chose themes such as climate action, community health, and education β€” showcasing how digital platforms can amplify social impact.

πŸŽ“ Learning Beyond Classrooms

What makes these internships stand out is not just what was taught β€” but how it was taught.

βœ” Experiential Learning: Both internships emphasized learning by doing β€” encouraging students to engage, explore, and solve real-world problems.

βœ” Social Impact: The work done wasn’t just for grades β€” it created visible, measurable change in communities.
