For the last two years, the residential societies of Sector 76 have demonstrated an inspiring commitment to responsible e-waste recycling. Through continuous awareness drives and door-to-door engagement, communities here have shown that environmental stewardship does not have to wait for large-scale government programs—it begins at home and grows through collective action.
During these e-waste collection drives, a recurring request emerged from the residents:
“Can we have a small, accessible collection box in our society so we don’t have to store e-waste at home for months?”
This simple citizen insight became the catalyst for a scalable, community-owned solution.
A Republic Day That Marked the Beginning of a New Sustainability Movement
On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, BPTP Park Floor II RWA and its residents, in association with SAS Foundation, implemented the first E-Waste Collection Box initiative in the sector.
This dedicated collection box allows every household to responsibly dispose of small and often overlooked e-waste items such as:
- Used batteries
- Damaged earphones
- Charging cables
- Mobile chargers
- Old USB drives
- Small electronic accessories
No more waiting for the next drive.
No more cluttering drawers with unusable electronics.
No more unsafe disposal.
Once the box reaches half its capacity, the RWA will request SAS Foundation to collect, segregate, and recycle the items safely—ensuring full compliance with environmental and recycling norms.
A Community Pledge: Making Sector 76 E-Waste Free
This initiative did not remain symbolic or limited to one society.
Multiple residential societies in Sector 76 joined hands on Republic Day and took a collective pledge:
To transform their neighbourhood into a fully e-waste–free zone.
The model is simple, scalable, and sustainable:
- Install an e-waste collection box within each society.
- Educate residents about safe disposal practices.
- Initiate periodic recycling pickups in partnership with SAS Foundation.
- Track the volume of e-waste collected and diverted from landfills.
More societies in Sector 76 are already preparing to install their boxes—creating a ripple effect of environmental consciousness.
Why This Matters: A Thought Leadership Perspective
Urban India faces a growing challenge with e-waste. Small items constitute a disproportionately large share of unaccounted waste because they are:
- hard to store
- easy to forget
- often thrown in household trash
Sector 76 is now addressing this specific behavioural gap with an elegant, citizen-led solution.
This initiative represents the future of urban sustainability:
✔ Decentralized Collection Systems
Locally managed and easily accessible mechanisms reduce dependency on large municipal systems.
✔ Community Ownership
Residents become active participants—not passive observers—in environmental action.
✔ Data-Driven Micro-Impact
Each society box becomes a data point for tracking environmental progress, waste reduction, and behavioural change.
✔ Replicable Model for India’s Urban Landscape
From apartments to gated communities to RWAs across the country, this initiative is easy to adopt and scale.
Sector 76 Becomes a Living Lab for Responsible Citizens
The collaboration between the community and SAS Foundation demonstrates the power of micro-innovation—small interventions that scale into significant impact. It showcases how RWAs can lead sustainability movements and how citizen feedback can shape practical solutions.
Sector 76 is no longer just a residential zone.
It is now a case study in community-led climate responsibility.
The Way Forward
With the momentum already strong, the next steps are clear:
- More societies will install collection boxes.
- Awareness campaigns will continue across apartments and RWAs.
- Residents will be encouraged to segregate and responsibly discard all e-waste.
- SAS Foundation will continue to support the region with periodic recycling pickups and data reporting.
Together, Sector 76 and SAS Foundation are building a replicable blueprint for the rest of Faridabad—and urban India.
When Citizens Act, Communities Transform
This Republic Day marks more than a ceremonial celebration—it marks a pledge, a movement, and a vision for a cleaner, greener future.
Sector 76 has shown that true change begins at the grassroots level. When community members lead with intention and organisations step in with expertise, sustainability becomes a shared journey.
The e-waste collection box is not just a container—
It is a symbol of hope, responsibility, and the collective will to protect the planet.
