The internet is full of possibilities — and pitfalls. What if children could learn to tell the difference before they click? At SAS Foundation, we’re doing exactly that through our Cybersecurity Awareness Internship 2025–26.
On 31st May and 1st June 2025, young interns from Classes 5–8 dove into two powerful modules that built their awareness, boosted their digital confidence, and gave them tools to protect their online identities.
📧 Module 5 – Identity Theft: What If Someone Pretends to Be You?
Led by Rajat Mangat (TCS), students explored:
- What identity theft is — in their own words: “When someone pretends to be you online.”
- Commonly stolen data: name, DOB, passwords, school details
- How identity theft happens: phishing, data leaks, weak passwords
- Safety tips: 2FA, strong passwords, not oversharing
- National support resources: cybercrime.gov.in, Helpline: 1930
🧠 Assignment: Create a shield graphic with 6 ways to protect against identity theft 🎯 Learning Outcome: Students learned not just to be cautious — but to act with purpose.
📱 Module 6 – Social Media Safety: Think. Verify. Share.
Social media is fun — until it’s dangerous. This session sparked lively conversations around:
- Online chatting with strangers
- Avoiding geotagging and oversharing
- Respectful digital behavior
- Strong password practices and safe friend requests
- Tools like Flipper Zero used in cyber attacks
- “Think, Verify, Then Share” — the golden rule of safe social media
💬 Interns like Devansh Singh, Anika Kapoor, and Dev Katoch reflected deeply on how digital footprints could affect future careers and safety.
📝 Assignment: Interview two family members about their social media habits and analyze good/bad practices
👏 Real Impact, Real Growth
By the end of these two modules, students weren’t just repeating what they heard — they were questioning, analyzing, and applying it. From Facebook to Snapchat, they now understand that digital behavior has real consequences.
“Now I know my password should be longer, unique, and secret. Even from my friends.” — Class 6 Intern
