Powering a Greener Tomorrow: Youth Lead the Way in E-Waste Action at Navin Apartments, Dwarka

In an age of rising digital consumption and environmental uncertainty, one thing remains abundantly clear: real change begins at the grassroots—and often, it begins with our youth.

On a bright, determined day in Dwarka, the Swavalamban Avam Swabhimaan Foundation (SAS Foundation), in collaboration with Attero, organized a groundbreaking e-waste collection drive at Navin Apartments. But this wasn’t just any awareness campaign or collection event. It was a movement, a mission, and a living testament to the potential of youth-led sustainability.

Youth in Action: The Heart of the Movement

What set this event apart was the energy, purpose, and leadership demonstrated by the students of BGS International Public School, Dwarka. These young champions, full of enthusiasm and a sense of environmental responsibility, stepped forward not just as students—but as changemakers.

Armed with posters, flyers, and powerful messages, they went door to door, educating residents about the importance of proper e-waste disposal. They explained how everyday items like old phones, broken laptops, and unused chargers, if left unmanaged, pose serious risks to both human health and the environment.

They weren’t simply participating—they were leading. And in doing so, they not only spread awareness but inspired real action within the community.

Community Collaboration: A Model for Local Impact

At the core of this impactful drive was community collaboration. The residents of Navin Apartments—under the thoughtful leadership of Mr. Pradeep Dwivedi, RWA President—opened their homes, hearts, and minds to the campaign.

With the guidance of the SAS Foundation and logistical support from Attero, the event seamlessly brought together students, parents, local residents, and civic leaders under one cause: sustainability through responsible e-waste disposal.

It was inspiring to witness how generations came together—young students learning from mentors, adults learning from children, and the entire community rediscovering the value of small but significant eco-conscious decisions.

The Results: Small Devices, Big Impact

By the end of the day, the collection numbers spoke volumes:

  • 24 smartphones

  • 7 feature phones

  • 3 laptops

  • And multiple miscellaneous electronic devices like chargers, batteries, and accessories

These might sound like numbers—but they represent so much more. Each item collected is a toxic hazard prevented, a resource saved, and a step toward a cleaner environment. It’s a powerful reminder that change doesn’t always require grand gestures—sometimes, it just needs mindful action.

 Voices from the Ground

Students shared their thoughts, and their reflections were nothing short of moving:

“I didn’t know what e-waste was until this drive. Now I want to talk to everyone I meet about recycling electronics,” said Aarav, a class 9 student.

“It felt so good when residents thanked us. We realized we’re not too young to make a difference,” shared Isha, a Green Champion from BGS International.

Mr. Pradeep Dwivedi, the RWA President, added:

“It’s heartwarming to see students lead such a meaningful drive. They’ve motivated many of us to think differently about our old electronics. We’re proud to support this movement.”

 SAS Foundation’s Commitment to Sustainability

For SAS Foundation, this isn’t a one-off event. It is part of a larger, ongoing mission to promote environmental consciousness and circular economy practices through youth engagement.

Our Green Champion Internship Program is specifically designed to provide students with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to become local sustainability ambassadors. Through hands-on experiences like this e-waste drive, we aim to build a generation that doesn’t just talk about change—they lead it.

This partnership with Attero, one of India’s leading e-waste management companies, is a testament to how NGOs, educational institutions, RWAs, and corporates can unite for shared environmental goals.

More Than Just a Drive: A Movement in the Making

What began as a simple drive to collect unused electronics has now evolved into a local movement. Residents are now more informed. Students are more empowered. And the idea of “e-waste awareness” is no longer abstract—it’s real, visible, and doable.

These are the seeds of sustainable behavior. And when planted in young minds, they grow into forests of impact.

 Join the Movement

If this story inspires you, we invite you to be part of the change. Here’s how:

  • Start a collection drive in your school, colony, or office.

  • Volunteer with SAS Foundation as a Green Champion or Eco Educator.

  • Educate others about responsible electronic waste disposal.

  • Support our mission through partnerships or CSR collaborations.

Together, we can make sustainability a habit, not just an event.

Final Thoughts: A Greener Tomorrow Begins Today

The e-waste collection drive at Navin Apartments was more than an activity—it was a living example of possibility. It showed us what happens when young minds meet supportive communities, guided by purpose and partnerships.

The road to environmental sustainability is long. But with every phone recycled, every student inspired, and every resident engaged, we’re getting one step closer.

At SAS Foundation, we’re proud to walk that road—hand in hand with tomorrow’s leaders.

Because a greener future isn’t just a dream—it’s a collective responsibility. And it begins with us
