Successful E-Waste Collection Drive at Joy Apartments, Sec 2, Dwarka

Empowering Communities Through Responsible Action: Successful E-Waste Collection Drive at Joy Apartments, Sec 2, Dwarka

Swavalamban Avam Swabhimaan Foundation (SAS Foundation) continues to lead the way in promoting sustainable living and environmental responsibility. On a bright and promising day, the Foundation successfully organized an impactful E-Waste Collection Drive at Joy Apartments, Sector 2, Dwarka—a remarkable initiative that brought together residents, youth, environmental advocates, and sustainability partners to create real change at the grassroots level.

This drive was not just about collecting discarded electronics—it was a powerful reminder of the role that community action, collaboration, and awareness play in addressing one of today’s most pressing environmental issues: electronic waste.

The Need for Responsible E-Waste Management

With the rise of technology and constant device upgrades, e-waste has become one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally. Discarded phones, computers, chargers, and other electronics not only clutter our homes but pose serious risks to our environment and health when not disposed of properly.

Recognizing this challenge, SAS Foundation has committed itself to creating awareness, infrastructure, and opportunities for responsible e-waste management. The recent drive at Joy Apartments is part of the Foundation’s broader initiative to build a culture of sustainability at the local level—one community at a time.

Why Joy Apartments, Sector 2, Dwarka?

Joy Apartments, located in the heart of Dwarka, is home to a diverse and environmentally conscious residential community. The Foundation identified this locality as a strong partner in its mission due to previous engagements, community responsiveness, and active resident welfare involvement.

The decision to organize a drive here was met with enthusiastic support from both residents and the Resident Welfare Association (RWA), which played a pivotal role in coordinating logistics and spreading awareness about the event.

Meet the Faces Behind the Success

No initiative can succeed without the commitment of its people. This drive was no exception. Several individuals and organizations came together seamlessly to make the event a grand success:

  • Dr. Nitin Saini, Gaurav Agarwal, CSM, and Jyotsana Sinha from SAS Foundation provided strategic leadership and on-ground support. Their planning and dedication ensured every detail was accounted for—from collection points to educational outreach.

  • Arjun Tiwari and Pankaj from Attero, one of India’s leading e-waste recycling firms, played an essential role in the operational side of the event, ensuring all collected material was documented and routed for safe disposal.

  • Mahesh Pandey, RWA Secretary, and Dr. Harjit Singh (PhD – IIT Delhi), a respected resident of Joy Apartments, were instrumental in mobilizing community participation. Their presence and encouragement inspired many residents to come forward and participate in this sustainable movement.

  • A heartfelt welcome goes to Jatin Yadav, a first-year BTech Computer Science student from Lovely Professional University (LPU), who joined the drive as a volunteer. His energy, passion, and enthusiasm reflected the power of youth in shaping environmental consciousness.

What We Collected

The drive was not only about mobilization—it was about measurable impact. In just one day, the SAS Foundation and its partners collected a significant quantity of e-waste from the residents of Joy Apartments, including:

  • 8 smartphones

  • 5 feature phones

  • 1 laptop

  • 1 landline phone

  • Approximately 49 kilograms of miscellaneous e-waste (chargers, cables, batteries, routers, etc.)

Each of these items will now be processed in an environmentally safe manner through Attero’s certified recycling infrastructure—ensuring that toxic substances do not end up in landfills or water bodies.

Spreading Awareness: A Vital Component

Beyond collection, the Foundation placed strong emphasis on education and engagement. Volunteers and team members took time to speak with residents, explaining:

  • What constitutes e-waste

  • The dangers of improper disposal

  • How the recycling process works

  • How each individual’s contribution makes a collective difference

These conversations sparked curiosity, concern, and a commitment from many families who pledged to continue segregating and responsibly disposing of their electronic waste in the future.

Residents were not only donors of e-waste—they became ambassadors of awareness within their community.

The Power of Collaboration

One of the most encouraging outcomes of the event was the spirit of collaboration. Educational institutions like Lovely Professional University, technology-driven organizations like Attero, and citizen-driven entities like RWAs came together under the SAS Foundation umbrella, showcasing how different sectors of society can synergize for the greater good.

These collaborations are proof that sustainable development is not just a government or corporate agenda—it is a shared responsibility that thrives on partnerships, purpose, and people.

Gratitude and Recognition

SAS Foundation extends its deepest gratitude to everyone who made this event a success. Special thanks go to:

  • The residents of Joy Apartments, for opening their homes and hearts to the cause

  • Volunteers, for their relentless energy and commitment

  • Attero, for ensuring that the collected e-waste is recycled responsibly

  • Educators and young volunteers, for bridging the gap between knowledge and action

Every step taken by each participant—whether it was contributing an old phone or educating a neighbor—added to the cumulative impact of the event.

Building a Sustainable Future—One Drive at a Time

This successful e-waste collection drive is part of the SAS Foundation’s broader vision to create a circular economy, reduce the environmental footprint of digital consumption, and instill a sense of ecological responsibility in every citizen.

By starting at the community level, the Foundation is ensuring that real change begins at home—in our apartments, schools, offices, and neighborhoods.

This event is a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together for a shared cause. It underscores the idea that small, consistent actions—when multiplied—can lead to big transformations.

What’s Next?

This is just the beginning! SAS Foundation plans to scale its E-Waste Awareness and Collection Campaign across more residential colonies, schools, and public spaces in the coming months.

The Foundation also aims to:

  • Conduct educational workshops

  • Organize youth-led awareness campaigns

  • Partner with schools, colleges, and startups for innovation in sustainable tech

 Final Thoughts

The successful e-waste collection drive at Joy Apartments is a beacon of hope. It shows that change is possible, that people care, and that action—when guided with purpose—can reshape our communities.

SAS Foundation remains committed to its mission of building a cleaner, greener, and more responsible India, one collection drive at a time.
