Empowering Change: A Successful E-Waste Collection Drive at Green View Apartments
In an inspiring display of community action and environmental responsibility, the Swavalamban Avam Swabhimaan Foundation (SAS Foundation) successfully conducted a powerful E-Waste Collection Drive on [insert date] at Green View Apartments, Sector 19, Dwarka. This initiative was part of SAS Foundation’s larger mission to spread awareness about the importance of e-waste recycling and to empower youth through action-oriented learning and community engagement.
This impactful event was organized under the foundation’s Green Champion Internship Program, a dynamic youth engagement platform designed to educate and involve students in sustainability initiatives. The program encourages students to take leadership roles in real-world environmental projects while gaining knowledge about waste management, climate change, and sustainability practices aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Power of Youth Leadership
What truly stood out in this initiative was the energetic leadership of our young interns who not only took charge of organizing the drive but also led by example. The drive was executed under the enthusiastic leadership of:
-
Subhiksha Trivedi
-
Sakshi Solanki
-
Sanvi Gupta
-
Palak Jadon
(from BGS International Public School – India, Dwarka)
and
-
Aditya Kumar Singh
(from Lovely Professional University)
These interns took the responsibility of planning, coordinating, and executing every aspect of the e-waste collection drive—from community outreach and awareness campaigns to hands-on collection and sorting of electronic waste.
Throughout the week leading up to the event, they engaged with residents, explained the importance of proper e-waste disposal, distributed flyers, and held face-to-face awareness discussions with families to encourage participation. Their efforts paid off when residents arrived on the day of the drive with bags full of unused, broken, and discarded electronic devices.
Seamless Coordination and Collaboration
The successful organization of this drive would not have been possible without the seamless coordination and behind-the-scenes efforts led by Mr. Nitin Saini, Secretary of SAS Foundation. With a clear vision and deep commitment to the cause, Mr. Saini ensured that all logistics were in place, from obtaining permissions and ensuring safety protocols to overseeing the smooth functioning of the event.
A special mention goes to Mr. Arjun Tiwari, e-Captain from Attero Recycling, and Mr. Pankaj, Attero’s on-ground helper, for providing professional support in terms of waste handling, proper segregation, and ensuring the collected materials are transported for safe and certified recycling.
This collaboration with Attero, one of India’s leading e-waste management firms, ensured that the event adhered to industry standards, prioritizing both environmental safety and legal compliance.
Community Participation: Families That Recycle Together, Grow Together
One of the most heartwarming aspects of the drive was the enthusiastic participation of the families of our interns. Parents not only supported their children emotionally but actively helped in mobilizing other residents, bringing their own e-waste, and encouraging neighbors to contribute.
This unique family-intern collaboration underscored the powerful idea that change starts at home. The young champions inspired their families, and together they inspired their community—a perfect example of how grassroots leadership and education can foster a culture of environmental responsibility.
The drive saw overwhelming support from the management and leadership of Green View Apartments. We are deeply grateful to:
-
Adv. Vikas Yadav, RWA President
-
Rajesh Kumar Singh, Caretaker of the Apartments
-
Shikha Gandotra/Sikka
-
Adv. Vidur Sikka
Their unwavering encouragement and support provided the much-needed foundation for the event’s success. From helping with permissions to facilitating space for collection and publicizing the event within the complex, their role was truly instrumental.
The Results: A Tangible Step Toward Sustainability
By the end of the day, the Green Champion interns and SAS team had successfully collected a significant volume of e-waste, including:
-
📱 8 feature phones
-
📱 4 smartphones
-
💻 3 laptops
-
📺 1 desktop screen
-
🛠️ 1 microwave
-
♻️ ~30 kilograms of miscellaneous e-waste
While these numbers may seem modest to some, they represent a monumental step in our collective journey toward sustainable waste management and climate responsibility. Every phone or microwave that gets properly recycled is one less toxic device leaching harmful chemicals into our landfills and water bodies.
E-waste, if not managed properly, releases hazardous substances like lead, mercury, and cadmium, which pose serious health risks to humans and ecosystems. Drives like these are not just about waste collection—they are about mindset transformation, community education, and laying the foundation for a future where responsible disposal is the norm, not the exception.
What’s Next?
The Swavalamban Avam Swabhimaan Foundation remains committed to continuing these grassroots sustainability efforts across other residential communities, schools, and public spaces. The momentum from Green View Apartments will be carried forward to future campaigns, supported by more young leaders and eco-conscious citizens.
Plans are already in motion for follow-up awareness workshops, poster campaigns, and skill-building sessions under the Green Champion Internship, aimed at helping interns gain deeper knowledge about circular economy models, sustainable innovation, and policy-level advocacy.
We also encourage more Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), educational institutions, and corporate organizations to come forward and host e-waste collection drives in collaboration with SAS Foundation and its youth interns.
Final Thoughts: A Greener Tomorrow Starts Today
This successful drive was more than just a collection event—it was a celebration of youth-led change, responsible citizenship, and environmental hope. At the heart of this initiative was a powerful message: each one of us has a role to play in building a cleaner, greener world.
Whether you’re a student, a parent, a community leader, or simply someone with an old phone lying in your drawer, your actions matter.
We thank Green View Apartments for their spirit, our interns for their passion, and every single resident who contributed to this movement. With collective effort and community-led actions, Swavalamban Avam Swabhimaan Foundation continues to sow seeds of sustainability and social impact across India.
Let’s keep the momentum going. Empower the youth. Respect the planet. Recycle responsibly.
