Stories That Shape Futures: How Books Can Transform Young Minds

At SAS Foundation, we firmly believe that education is not only about classrooms, grades, or exams—it is about shaping perspectives, nurturing values, and inspiring futures. Every child deserves access to the kind of knowledge that not only informs but also transforms.

In line with this vision, we recently donated 102 inspiring books to Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Shahbad Mohammadpur, South West Delhi. These books are more than stories—they are powerful accounts of India’s saints, deities, brave women warriors, and freedom fighters. They represent resilience, sacrifice, courage, and wisdom—qualities that today’s young generation can draw strength from.

A School That Inspires Transformation

Our visit to Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya was nothing short of inspiring. We were warmly welcomed by Mr. Sukhbir Singh Yadav, the school’s Principal, who also holds the distinguished position of President of Government Schools in Delhi.

Mr. Yadav narrated the fascinating history of the school and the journey it has undertaken. Under his visionary leadership, the school has transformed into one of the best-performing government schools in Delhi. With support from dedicated staff, he has uplifted infrastructure, teaching quality, and student engagement, creating an environment where children can thrive.

Walking through the school’s corridors, we witnessed the commitment, passion, and relentless effort of teachers and staff, all working towards one common goal—providing students with the best possible education.

Why Stories Matter

The books we distributed were not ordinary textbooks. They were stories—stories of Abhimanyu’s courage, Rani Lakshmi Bai’s bravery, Sant Kabir’s wisdom, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision, and many other heroes from Indian history and culture.

Why are such stories important? Because they do more than just teach facts. They:

• Instill Values: Stories of courage, compassion, and resilience help children internalize values that guide their lives.
• Build Identity: Knowing about one’s culture and history instills a sense of pride and belonging.
• Spark Imagination: A good story opens the door to new ideas, creativity, and innovation.
• Inspire Leadership: Role models from history help children believe in their own potential to create change.

As Managing Trustee of SAS Foundation, I often emphasize that:
“A nation that forgets its history risks losing its direction. Understanding the struggles and triumphs of our heroes gives us the wisdom to shape a brighter tomorrow.”

This initiative is more than a book donation drive. It is part of a larger movement by SAS Foundation to empower youth through education, values, and community development.
