Diwali is a festival of light, hope, and joy. But for many families facing unimaginable challenges, it is a reminder of what they lack rather than what they celebrate. At SAS Foundation, we believe that festivals are the perfect opportunity to combine compassion with action — to bring dignity, joy, and sustainable solutions into people’s lives.
This Dhanteras, we had the privilege of supporting Harish and his family, a household that has been navigating life with immense challenges. Harish has been paralyzed for the past year and is unable to walk or talk. His wife, Rani, caring for him while raising their 12-year-old son, needed a way to earn a livelihood — but constraints made it almost impossible. She cannot leave Harish unattended, and any work had to be done from their small home.
While temporary support through groceries and basic aid could provide short-term relief, SAS Foundation knew this would not be a sustainable solution. Instead, we took a step toward lasting empowerment:
- Providing ration and groceries,
- Giving clothes for Harish and his son,
- Sharing a box of sweets, so the family could celebrate Diwali with joy and dignity.
This gesture was not just charity — it was the seed of a larger vision.
🍱 Project SustainaBite — From Relief to Livelihood
After Diwali week, SAS Foundation will engage one of our Social Entrepreneurship interns to work with Rani and guide her in setting up a home-based tiffin service for working professionals in Dwarka.
This initiative aims to:
- Enable steady, self-sustained income for Rani and her family,
- Offer practical training and mentorship through our interns,
- Create a replicable model of home-based micro-entrepreneurship that balances care responsibilities with income generation.
Once the business is established and running smoothly, SAS Foundation will hand it over to Rani, ensuring she can continue it independently and with confidence.
🌍 How You Can Be Part of the Change
Project SustainaBite demonstrates that true social impact comes from collaboration. While SAS Foundation provides mentorship, guidance, and initial resources, the support of the broader community can multiply this impact exponentially.
Here’s how you can contribute:
- Monetary support to help scale the business, procure raw materials, or meet operational needs,
- Ideas and expertise to improve business operations or marketing strategies,
- Connections to potential customers, partners, or suppliers,
- Mentorship and guidance to interns or beneficiaries, helping them make informed decisions.
Every act of support — big or small — helps turn a story of struggle into a story of hope and resilience.
🌱 A Call to Empowerment
Rani’s journey is just the beginning. Through initiatives like Project SustainaBite, SAS Foundation is working to ensure that families facing adversity are not just helped — they are empowered to help themselves, sustainably and with dignity.
This Diwali, let us not only light lamps at home, but also light the path for those who need it most. Together, we can make compassion actionable, and hope achievable.
Let’s make every SustainaBite count. 💚
