What happens when 10–13-year-olds start talking about CERT-In, phishing URLs, and app permissions?
It means we’re doing something right. At Swavalamban Avam Swabhimaan Foundation (SAS Foundation), our Cybersecurity Awareness Internship for Classes 5–8 is unlocking a generation of digitally aware and responsible students.
On 14th and 15th June 2025, interns completed Modules 9 & 10, wrapping up a powerful learning journey with real-world skills — from personal phone protection to understanding national cyber law.
🔐 Module 9: Mobile Device Security – Your Pocket, Your Identity
Led by Rajat Mangat (TCS), students explored how smartphones are more than gadgets — they’re vaults of our identity.
🔍 They learned to:
- Avoid unsafe downloads & app permissions
- Use VPNs, encrypted messaging, and secure cloud backups
- Lock, locate, and wipe devices when lost
- Spot fake login pages and phishing SMS
- Practice safe Wi-Fi habits — especially in public places
🗣️ Learners like Keshav Tiwari, Ranjana Katoch, and Devansh Singh contributed examples of phishing links, insecure websites, and SMS-based scams — with responses that reflected maturity beyond their years.
📝 Assignment: Create a checklist for mobile safety, and highlight 3 real-life mobile scams
🛡️ Module 10: Cybersecurity in India – Policies, Portals & Programs
In the final session, students connected everything they’d learned to India’s national cybersecurity mission.
From Digital India and the Data Protection Act 2023 to CERT-In, NCIIPC, and tools like Cyber Swachhta Kendra, students learned about:
- How India tackles malware, ransomware & cyberbullying
- How to report crimes via cybercrime.gov.in
- Why app permissions matter and how they’re exploited
- Real agencies protecting our banks, telecom networks, and citizens
💡 They discussed what makes Cyber Security a shared responsibility — for government, schools, parents, and children.
📝 Final Assignment: Submit a report on India’s top 3 national cyber safety programs + 2 personal actions to stay cyber safe
🎓 The Internship May End — But the Learning Has Just Begun
Over 5 weeks, our young interns didn’t just attend sessions — they became advocates of digital responsibility. They understood the “why” behind every click, and how even their smallest online action creates an impact.
“I’ll check my app permissions right now. I didn’t know games needed microphone access.” — Class 7 Intern
With over 80+ students across 8 Delhi schools, SAS Foundation is proud to have sparked meaningful change — from passwords to policy.
