Turning Awareness into Action: How Communities Can Lead India’s E-Waste Revolution

On 27th September, SAS Foundation had the privilege of conducting its 23rd E-Waste Collection Drive overall and the 9th in Faridabad at BPTP Park Grandeura, Sector 82. What unfolded was not just a collection of discarded gadgets and appliances, but a powerful reminder of what communities can achieve when awareness meets action.

The Power of Collective Responsibility

E-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world, and India is no exception. While policies and recycling frameworks are essential, true change begins in our homes, societies, and neighborhoods. At BPTP Park Grandeura, residents came together to responsibly dispose of:

📱 16 Smartphones
💻 8 Laptops
⚡ 3 Mixers
📟 1 Tablet
📺 1 Color TV
🧺 1 Washing Machine
🖨️ 1 Printer
🌬️ 1 Fan
☎️ 1 Landline
♻️ 45 Kgs of miscellaneous e-waste

This was not just about numbers; it was about setting a precedent for responsible urban living.

Leadership, Collaboration, and Youth Involvement

Behind every successful drive lies leadership and collaboration. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Meenakshi ji for initiating and championing this effort, to BPTP Park Grandeura RWA for enabling it, and to the Eco Club Park Grandeura for bringing energy and commitment to the cause.

A special mention also goes to Kingshuk Chawla and Shravan Dabi from Tata Consultancy Services, whose volunteering spirit exemplifies how corporate professionals can contribute beyond their workspaces to larger societal impact.

Beyond Collection: Building Sustainable Habits

Each drive we conduct reinforces a truth: sustainability cannot be an event, it must become a habit. When residents see their neighbors bringing down old laptops or unused phones, it creates a ripple effect of behavior change. This is how collective action grows into a movement.

The Road Ahead

As SAS Foundation continues its mission of responsible e-waste management, one thing is clear — the future of sustainability in India will be written not only by policies and corporations, but by communities that care, act, and inspire others to follow.

Every discarded gadget we collect is a small victory against pollution, resource wastage, and environmental degradation. But more importantly, every drive is a step towards shifting mindsets.

Because at the heart of it, e-waste management is not just about recycling electronics. It’s about redefining responsibility in the digital age.

A Call to Action

We invite Resident Welfare Associations, corporates, and community groups to partner with us in hosting e-waste collection drives. Together, we can make responsible recycling not just an initiative, but a nationwide movement.

🌱 Join hands with SAS Foundation — because sustainable change begins where we live, work, and care.
